hello + thank you so much for stopping by!
Nightingale Handmade began as a personal blog in 2009 to document my everyday life and pursuits as a young creative. After graduating with my art degree, I was working as a nanny and needed a place to be creative, so I joined the Genesee Center of Arts & Education as an intern in their Printing & Book Arts Center. It was there that I had the opportunity to learn the timeless processes of paper making and letterpress printing. I fell in love with paper and never looked back.
I went on to work three post-college jobs, in various creative fields and all different cities, each time directly under an amazing businesswoman. Each of these awesome lady bosses taught me invaluable lessons in business: at Sassafras Flowers, Maura gave me my start, helped me discover my love for small business and instilled in me a desire to exceed expectations. After marrying the handsomest soccer coach in the world I started a dream job as a head baker at Cupcrazed Cakery, where Heather showed me that with enough hard work and badassery you can achieve anything you dream. I basically subsisted on buttercream frosting until we moved to New York and I started my last ever “real” job under Bryn of Paperfinger, who taught me everything I know about running a smart, savvy operation. These women are the inspiration and heart behind what I'm privileged to do today.
I took the plunge and officially opened Nightingale Handmade as a business in San Diego, California in 2013. Since then my wonderful husband and I have welcomed a beautiful son and relocated yet again to the midwest. We now reside in Marion, Indiana, where Luke is the men's soccer coach at Indiana Wesleyan University and I have the immense privilege of operating Nightingale Handmade full-time as a custom design & print studio. I'm not sure where this journey is leading, but I'll be sharing projects, photos, stories and beautiful handmades along the way. As always, I hope you like what you see.
